Cotton vs. Fleece: A Fabric Guide

Ring-spun, loopback, 400gsm — fabric labels decoded, so you can pick the right blank for tees, sweatshirts, and hoodies.

For tees, look for ring-spun or combed cotton. The extra processing removes short fibers, which means a smoother print surface and less pilling. Midweight (around 180–200gsm) suits everyday wear; heavyweight (220gsm+) gives that structured, boxy drape streetwear labels love.

For sweatshirts and hoodies, the magic words are loopback and brushed-back fleece. Loopback is breathable and holds embroidery beautifully; brushed fleece is warmer and softer inside. Dense fleece around 400gsm keeps a hood standing structured instead of flopping flat.

Our rule of thumb: match the fabric to the print method. Smooth, tight fabrics take crisp screen prints; textured knits shine with embroidery. Tell us the look you want and we will match the blank — that is literally our job.
